A birthday gift made from the places you shared
A memory map is a birthday present that costs less than a decent bottle and outlasts everything else they'll be given. Take the places the two of you have actually been — the park you met in, the street you got lost on, the garden you keep going back to — and give each pin the photos and the story behind it. Nobody else can make this one, because nobody else was there. It arrives as a private link, on the day, from wherever you are.

What to put on a birthday map
The places the two of you have actually been — where you met, the night that went badly, the one you both still call yours. Cheaper than a present and much harder to throw away.
- Where you met
- The park, the party, the first week of a job neither of you stayed in. Write down what you actually thought of them that day — it's usually better than the version you both tell people.
- The day you got hopelessly lost
- Nobody plans one and everybody has one. The wrong turn, the same street three times, the thing you were looking for and never found.
- The place that became yours
- The bench, the garden, the corner table you always end up at. They'll recognise this pin before they've read a word of it.
- The night that went badly
- The worst meal either of you has ever had, the plan that collapsed, the weekend it rained on everything. These age better than the good ones.
- The day you needed them
- Say what they actually did, even if it was only turning up. Most people are never told this, and it's the pin worth taking time over.
- Where you were this year
- End on something recent — the last place you saw them, or where you'll both be on the day. It makes the map something you add to next year rather than a thing you finished.
See one you can actually open
An example map, made for a best friend's birthday in Rome — nine memories from the day they met to the morning itself. Tap a pin to open the memory behind it; the pins that sit close together in the centre group into a numbered pin until you zoom in.
It only needs to be a sentence per pin.
Start it tonight, add pins as they come back to you, and send the link on the morning.
