What to put on an engagement map

For the person you're about to marry: where you met, the day you knew, where the question gets asked, and the address you're at now.

Where you met: The quay, the party, the friend's kitchen. Everyone getting this link already half-knows the story, so pin the version with the embarrassing detail left in.
The day you knew: Not the day you got together — the ordinary evening months later when you looked over and thought, this is the one. Nobody else was there to remember it for you.
The one that's just a Saturday: Everything else on an engagement map is a milestone. Give one pin to the market you go to most weeks, so what's on there is a relationship and not a list of occasions.
The day it went badly: A map made only of good days reads like a highlight reel. Pin the afternoon you sat somewhere without saying much and they stayed — it's the pin the proposal rests on.
Where the question happens: The headland, the foreshore, the kitchen at seven in the morning. Pin it whether it's happened already or hasn't yet; a pin with nothing behind it is still the loudest one on the map.
