What to put on a map for your mum

The park she walked you round, the Saturday market, the path where she let go of the bike. Everywhere the two of you already have.

The place she always took you: The park, the pool, the walk round the block when you had too much energy for the house. Usually the earliest pin on the map, and the one she opens first.
The ordinary weekly one: The market on a Saturday, the shops, the drive she did every week without ever being thanked for it. A pin like this lands harder than the big occasions, because it tells her you noticed.
Where she taught you something: The path where she let go of the bike, the car park where you learned to drive, the library on a wet afternoon. Write what she actually said, not the tidy version.
Where you told her the hard thing: The walk you went on because it was easier than sitting across a table from her. She'll remember the conversation; she won't know you kept the place.
Where you left from: The station, the airport, the front door with the car already packed. What you'll want to write down is how she looked standing there as you went.
Somewhere you'd go with her now: Lunch that ran to the whole afternoon, a beach with no plan attached. It stops the map being only about when you were small.
