What to pin on a travel journal

A trip you want to remember properly. Pin each stop while it's fresh and write what actually happened there, not just where you slept.

The day it started feeling real: Not the airport. The first place you stood still long enough to believe you were actually there — a park on the first morning, a canal after dinner. It's the pin that dates the whole trip.
Two pins for one town: Three days somewhere isn't one memory. The morning you arrived and the night you walked home along the water are different places — pin the town once and one of them goes.
The bit between the places: The train you changed at, the hire car with the windows down, the wrong turn you kept taking. Half a trip happens in transit and almost nobody writes any of it down.
The day it went wrong: The dinner that was genuinely bad, the rain that ate the plan you'd spent a week making. These are the pins that read best later, so write them while you're still annoyed.
The view that stopped the conversation: The climb you complained about the whole way up, the city lighting up underneath you. A line about the walk up is worth more than an adjective for the view.
The last night: Where you ate, where you walked afterwards, the station you left from. It's the part you'll reread most, and the part you're too tired to write unless you've decided to in advance.
